Artist Biography

Gail grew up on the Niagara Peninsula surrounded by orchards, fields and wood-lots. This fostered a love of the outdoors which is apparent in her work. She began to practice painting in watercolour as her long career in teaching came to a close. Eventually, after retiring from a second career, soft pastels became her favourite medium because of its immediacy, vibrant colours and ability to capture light. Her style is impressionistic. Her subjects include landscapes, skies, water, trees, plants and figures. She has learned much along her journey from Barry McCarthy, Nan Hogg, Jessica Masters and Alain J. Picard. She believes that capturing the essence of her surroundings is a never ending journey.
